I teach critical thinking not just scientifically, but as a way to assess your own life and your own problems. I do it through a deep respect for truth-telling. Telling ourselves the truth is the hardest thing, but once we begin, the discomfort is where all the answers lie.
I have done this throughout my whole life, even when others tried to drown me in the lies they needed to tell themselves about the social world.
When we are taught to be alert to and recognise real-world patterns, and when we know how to assess science and knowledge, and intersect those two sources of information with our own lived experience as a form of testing, then we can actually get closer to knowing. This is true intelligence. When we can make things that are going wrong more right.
We cannot make decisions that are good for us without truth-telling and an acute awareness of our lived experience.
I would love for you to take a chance, follow, and hear what I know, and how I organise the logic behind my ideas. We need more public intellectuals who are not hiding behind those who provide them with their paychecks or other tall institutional walls blocking innovative thinking.
We need brave people who apply knowledge to analyse real-world phenomena. That’s what I do. I have left academia full-time so I can tell the truth.
